Unlike many other countries in Latin America, Uruguay’s food is unique and more closely related to European cuisine than anything else. If you’ve had Argentine food, then you might find the dishes here rather similar. Like Argentines, Uruguayans LOVE their meat, much of which they boil or roast to enhance the flavor. Try Asado de Tira (beef ribs), Morcilla Dulce (sweet black sausage) or Chivito, an amazing steak sandwich. If you’re not too full on the meat, they have delicious desserts like Dulce de Leche and “Chajá” (sponge balls). End your day with a cup of Mate, or Yerba Mate, the national drink which is kind of like a heavy-caffeinated tea. Of course, don’t forget to taste the wine, too!
