If you’re thinking of touring Europe, there are already a lot of things to consider. What tour is right for you? What country or cities do you want to visit? How much will you need for your budget? Are you planning on traveling with someone you know or you’re interested in meeting new people? These are all some of the questions you may want to ask yourself before going on a tour, but one thing we tend to ignore is WHEN we should travel.

Sure, a lot of people travel during their vacations from work or school, which tend to be in the summer or the winter. And, because Europe generally has seasons as well as various climates, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.

But, if still you really aren’t quite sure of when you should travel, this guide should help:

Summer

Summer is a great season to travel to Europe, but there are also some downsides. The weather can be hot in some countries in southern Europe, but in northern or Eastern Europe, it’s not too bad. It can be humid so if that makes you uncomfortable, keep that in mind. Summer means it can also rain in some places, so make sure you’re prepared if the rain comes down. The last thing to remember is summer is a busy season for travelers, which means lines can be long and sites can be crowded.

Winter

Winter is very cold in most parts of Europe, and this tends to drive some people away from traveling there during that time of year. But, if you don’t mind the snow, winter is actually one of the most beautiful seasons. Many cities in Europe have Christmas markets and themes all around, so it really feels like you’re in a fairytale. You can also have the opportunity to see the Northern Lights in parts of Scandinavia. Of course, if you head to southern Spain or Greece in the winter, you’ll be away from this, which might be a better choice for some people.

Spring

Spring is probably the best time to tour around Europe. The weather is sunny and warm, and you just need a few light sweaters or a light jacket. You don’t have to worry about working up a sweat or freezing your butt off while out sightseeing, and packing is a breeze. There are enough daylight hours to explore all day long. If it’s not quite warm for you yet, southern Europe will already be heating up around this time, so you can still get in some beach days.

Fall

Another mild season, fall can actually be quite cold in some parts of Europe. Some people absolutely love this weather and couldn’t think of any better way to travel. But, you definitely don’t want to leave your jacket back at home. The fall foliage and landscapes this time of year are breathtaking, and fall is a great time to do train rides or road trips around.
