For a long time, Iceland was a destination that not many travelers explored. However, nowadays, more and more people are heading to Iceland for an unforgettable travel experience, filled with adventures that really are not available anywhere else. If you haven’t been to Iceland yet, it’s probably at the top of your bucketlist, and if it’s not, here’s why it should be:
The Landscapes:
Iceland is just a beautiful country, period. Where else can you find glaciers, mountains, rivers, and lush green fields, all found within a few kilometers of one another? Not many people take the chance to visit the Arctic Circle, but Iceland allows you to see what this mysterious region has to offer.
The Northern Lights:
There are only a few places in the world where you can actually see the Northern Lights well, and Iceland is one of them. This awesome, natural phenomenon appears more clearly in the winter months. Just by getting a little away from the city lights, can one get an incredible view of Aurora Borealis.
The Hot Springs:
Though the climate is actually quite mild here in Iceland, the cold days definitely call for an afternoon in some of the world’s most amazing hot springs. Because of Iceland’s geographical make-up, this country has countless of hot springs that you can visit any time of the year.
The National Parks:
Iceland has three national parks, Þingvellir National Park, Vatnajökull National Park, and Snæfellsjökull National Park. Each one provides something that intrigues all travelers to have Iceland at the top of their bucketlists. Visit the glacier inside of Vatnajökull, see where the continental plates meet, or hang out near breathtaking volcanoes and waterfalls. These national parks are home to a lot of Europe’s superlatives when it comes to nature.
The Sights and Tours:
While many of Iceland’s best attractions take place inside of the national parks, there are many outside as well. Visit the Blue Lagoon, which is much more than just a hot spring, the unbelievable geysers, Geysir and Strokkur, and the awe-inspiring lava fields. Take a look at Gulfoss, a stunning waterfall, or just take a peaceful drive around the countryside. Many people choose to do a group tour of Iceland, in order to see everything without the hassle. The most popular tour is the one of the Golden Circle, which will take you a majority of these places. You can also opt to rent an ATV, ice-climb, go hiking, or try other exciting outdoor adventures to combine with your tour experience.
Reykjavik:
Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is a beautiful city that attracts travelers from all over. While many come to Iceland to take part in all the nature, don’t miss your chance to spend a day hanging out in Reykjavik. Whether you prefer doing something casual like shopping, bowling, or grabbing a drink out with friends, the options are endless. If you would rather rent a bike to ride around town or admire the magnificent architecture at places like the iconic Hallgrímskirkja, you can do that, too.
The Food:
When it comes to the cuisine here, it’s no wonder Iceland is at the top of travelers’ bucketlists. Here, you can try foods ranging from reindeer and fermented shark, to sheep’s head, whale meat, and a number of other dishes. Though the dishes may be hard to taste, don’t miss out on the opportunity.
Iceland is becoming one of the most popular places in the world to visit. Travelers from all over have Iceland at the top of their bucketlists, and it’s no wonder why.
