There’s countless gorgeous places to visit in Southeast Asia, and though it’s not physically attached to the majority of the region, Indonesia is one of them. From stunning beaches and lush jungles, to unbelievable islands and cultural wonderlands, there’s a lot in this country to see. If you’re wondering where to go in Indonesia, check out this list so you can begin booking your tour:
1.) Padang Padang Beach
Padang Padang Beach is one of the most gorgeous beaches in Indonesia. People come from all over to go for a swim, lie out in the sun, hit the surf, or even just take in the incredible views. There’s tons of little vendors on the beach so you can grab an ice cream or buy a little souvenir. It does get crowded though, so make sure you come at a good time.
2.) Gili Islands
A trip to one of the three (or all) of the Gili Islands is something you mustn’t miss out on during your trip to Indonesia. Even though Indonesia is an island itself, you may want to spend some time in a place more remote. If so, the Gili Islands are the place for you. Hang out by a resort or even a luxurious beach hut on Gili Air, or visit the more popular island, Gili Trawangan. Do some exciting outdoor activities or indulge in delicious island fare. If you’re into diving, the Gilis have some of the best around. You’re guaranteed to see a turtle or two!
3.) Ubud
Those looking to get away from the beach for a little bit should come to Ubud, where they can explore the rainforest and a city famous for its rich culture. All around Ubud you’ll find magnificent Hindu temples, surrounded by a postcard-worthy landscape. There’s plenty of tours that come out to Ubud, so you can be sure you won’t miss a thing. You can hang out with some elephants while you’re here, too!
4.) Komodo Island
If you haven’t figured it out yet, Komodo Island is named after its beloved inhabitant, the Komodo dragon. There’s approximately 1,700 Komodo dragons on the island, so if you go on an eco-tour here, you’ll be sure to find one. In addition to its large lizards, Komodo Island is also known for having incredible pink-sand beaches. Visit Komodo National Park or just chill by the water, where perhaps the creatures will find their way to you.
5.) Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple, or Pura Luhur Uluwatu, is a temple located on the Balinese Sea in the southern part of Denpasar. It’s something you must do while in Bali. As it’s built on the edge of a rock hanging over the water, it takes a bit of a hike to get there. However, if you go on a tour, then you should have no problem making your way to it. Bring your camera to take some awesome pics, but beware of the monkeys who love to steal things from their human visitors.
6.) Lembongan Island
Yet another breathtaking spot in Indonesia is Nusa Lembongan, where people love to come for everything from surfing and snorkeling, to tanning and watching a once-in-a-lifetime sunset. Take a dive in waters that are clearer than anything you’ve ever seen, where you can swim beside colorful marine wildlife. To get here, you’ll have to take a boat from Bali or go on a tour. No worries, though; you’ll be happily greeted by all this place has to offer once you complete the short journey.
These are hands-down some of the best spots in Indonesia. Book a tour to see them all during your travels throughout Southeast Asia, and prepare to be mesmerized.
