All of us travel for different reasons. We want to break free, we want to see things, we want to try new foods and experience unique cultures. That being said, with all there is to see in the world, sometimes you can’t help but try the cliche, touristy things. If you’re an avid traveler, you might feel a tad guilty trying these things, but, let’s be honest. There are just some touristy things that you have to experience at least once in your life:
1.) The Eiffel Tower at Night:
Yes, you’ve seen ‘Midnight in Paris’ a million times. Although you won’t get to travel back to Paris in the twenties (except for in your imagination), seeing the Eiffel Tower on your trip to France is the next best thing. You’ve seen it on postcards, magazine, in art galleries, etc. Seeing it for yourself all lit up at night might be touristy, but it’s truly unforgettable.
2.) Full Moon Party, Thailand:
You’ve heard about these things, but you’ve never thought you’d get the chance to take part in all the craziness that is a Full Moon Party. But, now you’re in Thailand or somewhere else in Asia, and you can’t help booking yourself a trip to Koh Phangan. It will be hot. There will be a lot of people. There will be loud music. There might even be some questionable things being done. But, it’ll sure be an amazing time.
3.) The Great Wall of China:
Sure, it might be one of the most touristy things you’ll ever do in your life, but the Great Wall of China is touristy for a reason. This massive, historical structure is located just a little bit outside of Beijing, and is definitely worth the trip. Start reminiscing on your childhood days of trying to build a hole to China, because you finally made it to the other side.
4.) New Year’s in Times Square:
Almost everyone knows about the New Year’s countdown in New York. Times Square is an iconic street in Manhattan, and maybe one of the most touristy in the world-especially on New Year’s Eve. Being here among the thousands of locals and tourists who are all coming to watch the ball drop at midnight is definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
5.) Cliff Jumping in Santorini:
Maybe it was the scene in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” that inspired you, or maybe it was something else. Whatever it was, the chance to cliff jump into the gorgeous waters of Santorini, Greece, will be probably scary as hell, but totally worth it. Make sure you get this one on the GoPro.
6.) Christ the Redeemer:
Whether you’re coming for Rio 2016 or any other time of the year, visiting this epic monument is unquestionably touristy, but must be on your travel bucketlist. Climb to the top, take pictures squishing it between your fingers, or just bask in the glory of actually being here. Take in the breathtaking, colorful views of Rio below you. It’s all yours.
7.) Bridge Climb in Sydney:
This might very well be the most touristy thing on this list, especially if you’re Australian. However, doing the Bridge Climb in Sydney is an incredible opportunity to see this gorgeous city in its entirety right before your very eyes. The bridge is a little steep and it takes a bit of training, but this experience will all be worth it.
Many things in the world are touristy, but for a very good reason. Don’t miss out on these experiences during your travels!
